Ready to sell? Here are 6 tips to showcase your home
Selling your home? First impressions are everything. A home that looks great from the start has a much better shot at getting the best offers.
Most buyers decide how they feel about a home pretty quickly—and a lot of that decision is emotional. By the time they walk through your front door, they’ve already checked out the size, layout, and location online. The photos got them interested. Now it’s all about showing them your home feels just right.
1. Ask your estate agent for tips
Even if you’ve got a good eye, it never hurts to get your agent’s take. They know what today’s buyers are looking for and might work with stylists and pro photographers to help your place really pop. Those listing photos are super important, so your home should look just as good in person as it does online.
2. Make the outside inviting
That first look from the curb sets the tone. Make sure the “For Sale” sign is clean and straight. Clear the path to your door, tidy up the garden, and maybe add a few potted plants to brighten things up. Move your car so there’s easy parking, and give the front door a quick clean—including the handle and letter box. Check that your outdoor lights are working too.
3. Keep things tidy
Once your home is on the market, try to keep it neat day-to-day. You never know when a last-minute showing might pop up. It’s way easier if you’re not scrambling to clean every time someone wants to see it. Quick tip: vacuum, clear the surfaces, and pop dirty dishes in the dishwasher before people arrive.
4. Make bathrooms feel fresh
Clean and fresh—that’s the vibe you want for bathrooms. Before a showing, do three easy things: spray a little air freshener or drop in some scented cleaner, close the toilet lid, and hang up some nice clean towels (it helps to keep a fresh set just for showings!).
5. Add a few stylish touches
You’re not just selling a home—you’re selling the idea of living there. Add some cozy touches like candles, flowers, or throw pillows. In the kitchen, a bowl of fruit or some herbs can bring it to life. Keep a few props handy to dress things up quickly before viewings.
6. Smells matter (in a good way!)
It’s kind of a cliché, but the smell of baking really does work. Pleasant scents—like fresh bread or newly brewed coffee—can make your home feel warm and inviting. Just don’t overdo it. Subtle is best!
Bonus tip: Plan for pets
We all love our furry friends, but not every buyer will. If you can, take your pets out during showings. If that’s not possible, keep them in one room with their stuff, and ask your agent to give buyers a heads-up.
